CLIMBING IN VALLE DEL SARCA, VALLE DI LEDRO, AND AROUND LAGO DI GARDA.

The area of southern Trentino around Lago di Garda is a very wide valley with a huge quantity of rock faces, some very high, and a Mediterranean climate due to the influence of the largest lake in Italy, Lago di Garda.
The local climbers talk about climbing in the “Valle” to refer to this area, which extends from Vezzano down to Riva del Garda, and it is a highly recommended experience for the many tourists who pass their holidays here. The mild local climate allows rock climbing more or less year round. For those not familiar with this sport and who would like to try, our TRENTINOCLIMB TEAM organize excursions every day. Contact us and we will arrange a trip with one of our specialized rock climbing guides for an unforgettable day out.

SHORT HISTORY OF CLIMBING IN

Climbing around Arco and in Valle del Sarca started seriously in the early 1970s with the ascent of some fantastic routes on Cima Colodri. Before that time the area had been largely ignored, because the main focus of rock climbing and mountaineering was concentrated on the fabulous Dolomite peaks nearby. The quality of these new routes did not go unnoticed and over the following years the local rock faces came under mass assault.
The result was the beginning of a chain reaction that after a few years transformed the Valle into one of the largest and most varied climbing areas in Europe and the world.
Numerous local climbing guide books were published and the number of multi-pitch routes increased from just over a hundred in the early 1980s to over 3000 of all lengths, difficulties, styles, and aspects, so that today it is genuinely impossible even for a local climber to do every route around Arco.
The vertical playground of Arco is also very much about sport climbing on bolted crags. These are small rock walls where you can test yourself on vertical challenges that extend just a few metres in height, and this is certainly the best and most enjoyable introduction to rock climbing.
In the early days of climbing in the Valle, sport climbing developed alongside big wall climbing. In the 1980s a local group that included MANOLO - MARIACHER - BASSI and JOVANE brought their high class climbing skills to the superb quality rock. The picture of a climbing paradise was completed with the favourable climate, beautiful landscape, and friendly local people, who do not hide a degree of admiration for rock climbers.
Active rock climbers all over the world have inevitably heard of Arco and the Valle del Sarca, and many will visit at least once in their climbing careers to touch and dance over our wonderful, multi-coloured limestone rock. Our advice is therefore rather obvious: take advantage of your holiday at Lago di Garda or Lago di Ledro to try this fascinating activity. We offer courses of all types, more or less intensive, with personalized programmes based on your preferences, for a morning, afternoon, or all day climbing one of the gorgeous routes right above the waters of Lago di Garda in the pleasant company and professional care of our TRENTINOCLIMB Alpine Guides.
ENJOY YOUR HOLIDAY AT LAGO DI GARDA, WHICH WE HOPE WILL INCLUDE SOME VERTICAL THRILLS
